There She Goes
There She Goes is a showcase of two artists, Kerryn Salter and Beatrice Morel. As the title suggests, the narrative explores constant movement and fluidity in female expressions. The exhibition highlights how photography can help to express emotions without words, process complex feelings, and deliver a perceptible sense of relief.
"There She Goes" brings to the surface what lingers within as parts of a necessary conversation: the works by Beatrice and Kerryn speak to each other, but at the same time, invite the observer to join them. The juxtaposition of their art references the societal double-standards imposed on women who are oftentimes criticised for polarising ends of certain actions or emotions.
The idea of "There She Goes" is to subvert this systemic dismissal of female emotions. While subjective, there is a universal quality in the experiences that women go through in terms of biological processes, societal stigmas, cultural repressions, and overbearing stereotypes. Beatrice and Kerryn express themselves through their multi-dimensional art with hopes that women find the courage to persist in owning their thoughts, experiences, and feelings. There are issues to be addressed, and both artists seek to be the catalysts for affirmation, encouragement, and positive change - in doing so, they showcase and celebrate the beauty of feeling deeply and the agency to validate and appreciate one’s full, colourful spectrum of emotions, however they might be experienced and expressed.
